Supporting Older Adults and Family Caregivers
The Genevieve N. Johnson Senior Center's Extended Daycare Program
provides a secure, engaging environment with high-value social and
recreational care for older adults during the late afternoon and
early evening period of the day.
The program is designed to combat social isolation, improve sleep
and cognition, and offer essential respite care for family caregivers
so they can work or rest while knowing their loved ones are receiving
quality care.

Additional Care, Connection and Peace of Mind
An extended daycare program provides care and social opportunities
for an older adult who cannot be home while loved ones are away at
work or who may need more daily assistance than their family can
provide. In the continuum of senior living options, it can serve as
a step between having an aide come to the home and living full-time
in a senior care facility.
A key benefit is the opportunity for additional socialization.
Extended daycare can help relieve the isolation and loneliness that
many people experience as they age, particularly those with dementia,
mild depression, or other ongoing health and mobility issues.
Extended daycare also provides an option for family caregivers who
may be struggling with daily caregiving needs that affect their
ability to work or receive necessary respite. It allows family
members time to tend to their own needs while their loved one
participates in a safe and enriching environment.
Caregivers may also benefit from support services such as educational
programs, support groups, and individual counseling for themselves
and their families.
